The Tour de Trump was a multi-day professional cycling stage race launched in 1989 with genuine sporting ambition -- positioned as a North American rival to the European grand tours. The first edition was genuinely well received in cycling circles, attracting international professional riders and media coverage.

Trump sponsored and named the race for its first two editions in 1989 and 1990. After two years, DuPont became the title sponsor and the race was renamed the Tour DuPont. It continued successfully under that name until 1996, making it one of the few Trump-adjacent ventures to continue thriving after his involvement ended.

This makes the Tour de Trump something of an outlier in the Trump product catalogue: it was a real, competitively credible sporting event that outlasted his association with it. The race was good. It just stopped being his.
