CNN launched an investigation into their origins, tracing the company -- TheBestWatchesOnEarth LLC -- to a mailing address in a shopping centre in Sheridan, a small city in northern Wyoming near the Montana border. The address is shared with the company that sells Trump sneakers. The building also houses a daycare. There is no sign of any watches at the address.

The flagship model, the "Trump Victory Tourbillon," is priced at $100,000, limited to 147 units (totalling $14.7M), and accepts payment in Bitcoin -- making it, as one commentator noted, exceptionally difficult for the IRS to trace. The website accepts no refunds.

One watch was found on the product listing with a misspelling. The fine watchmaking community responded with laughter. The company's registered agent said he was unaware his firm was working with Trump until CNN called.
