Ghislaine Maxwell
Socialite / Convicted Sex Trafficker · British-American · Imprisoned — serving 20-year federal sentence
Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell (born December 25, 1961) is the youngest daughter of the late British media proprietor Robert Maxwell. Following her father's death in 1991 she relocated to the United States, where she became closely associated with Jeffrey Epstein. The nature of their relationship evolved from romantic to professional; she described herself as his girlfriend in early years and later as a close friend and associate.
Maxwell became central to Epstein's operations. Prosecutors and victims established that she recruited young women and girls from vulnerable backgrounds, groomed them for sexual abuse, and in some cases participated directly in that abuse. She managed his properties, scheduled appointments, and maintained his social connections. Witnesses described her as the operational manager of his trafficking network.
She was arrested in New Hampshire in July 2020 after spending over a year in hiding. She was convicted in December 2021 on five federal charges including sex trafficking of minors. The jury found her guilty after a five-week trial featuring testimony from four survivors who described being abused as teenagers after being recruited by Maxwell. She was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison and is serving her sentence at FCI Tallahassee in Florida.
Maxwell maintained throughout her trial that she was a scapegoat for Epstein's crimes. Her appeals have been unsuccessful.
