George Mitchell

Former US Senate Majority Leader  ·  American  ·  Active — denies wrongdoing

George John Mitchell (born August 20, 1933) is a retired American Democratic politician and lawyer who served as US Senator for Maine from 1980 to 1995, including six years as Senate Majority Leader. He played a central role in the Northern Ireland peace process, chairing the negotiations that produced the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

Mitchell's name appeared in materials associated with the Epstein civil litigation. Virginia Giuffre named him in a 2015 court filing, alleging contact through Epstein's network. Mitchell denied the allegations comprehensively.

In January 2015, a Florida federal judge ordered that the filing containing these allegations be struck from the court record as immaterial and impertinent. The decision to strike the filing was subsequently criticised by some legal observers.

No criminal proceedings have been initiated against Mitchell. He has maintained his denial of all allegations connected to the Epstein network.
